Indian Pulse Imports Should Decline

VANCOUVER - Apr 9/11 - SNS -- The Indian government's third advance estimate for this season's rabi and kharif season crops confirms the 2010-11 pulses harvest was a record 17.29 million MT.

Rising pulse production in India allowed the government to end its subsidy program for pulses bought by state trading companies and resold to commercial entities in India.

Under the scheme, state trading companies could buy up to 1.5 million MT of pulses annually for resale to commercial buyers, with the government covering any losses incurred up to a 15% maximum.
