Pea Exports Falter in March

VANCOUVER - Apr 4/11 - SNS -- Bulk conventional exports of field peas from Canada did not live up to expectations in March, with a large number of nominated vessels rolling over in April.

Even so, movements continues at a record pace. Port clearances during the first quarter of the 2011 calendar year set a new record at 526,994 metric tons (MT), inching ahead of the previous best total for those three months by just under 5,000 MT.

This lifted field pea shipments for the first eight months of the 2010-11 marketing year to 1,686,135 MT, roughly 634,000 MT above the same period last season.
