Government Activitity Dominates Peas
VANCOUVER - Mar 25/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets were little changed against continued demand for yellow split peas from the U.S. government and occasional tender activity from India's state trading companies.
During the week, the USDA tendered to buy 10,300 metric tons (MT) of yellow split peas for shipment from origin processing plants in May; as well as buying 1,470 MT for movement through the first week of April.
There is an expectation India's coming budget will remove the subsidy available to state trading companies when they buy peas for resale on commercial markets.
