Peas Processors Busy, Markets Firm

VANCOUVER - Feb 12/11 - SNS -- International field pea markets finished the week's trading on a strong note against steady export movement from Canada and ongoing demand from the U.S. government for peas for shipment as food aid.

Canada is looking at another good month for bulk conventional field pea exports via Vancouver, with additional tenders from India's state trading companies indicating demand will remain relatively steady through the summer.

The past week saw the USDA buy 13,630 metric tons (MT) of yellow split peas for shipment from origin in March; and tender for another 1,220 MT for shipment from origin between the middle of March and first week in April.
