Peas Mantain Firm Tone
VANCOUVER - Jan 29/11 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week's trading on a firm note in relative light trading condtions.
Markets were helped by ongoing export activity in Canada and continued purchases of yellow peas for shipment as food aid by the USDA.
The past week saw the USDA tender to buy 16,690 metric tons (MT) of mainly split yellow peas for shipment from origin in March. This is helping keep processing plants in the United States operating at close to capacity, constraining their ability to compete for commercial business.
