Slack India Demand Hurts Myanmar Pulses

VANCOUVER - Nov 23/10 - SNS -- Pulse export volumes from Myanmar continued this weakened performance through October on account of slack demand from India, its most important customer.

Shipments in October ended up at 63,587 metric tons (MT), down 45% from 116,089 MT in October 2009. Matpe (Black gram) accounted for 54% of the total exports, followed by mung bean (green gram) 29% and toor whole (pigeon pea) 11%.

India remained the largest buyer accounting for 37,243 MT or 59% of total exports, followed by China with 6,961 MT or 11% and Sri Lanka with 5,105 MT or 8%.
