Massive Import Demand From India

PANAMA - Feb 16/24 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week's trading on a relatively firm note on a significant improvement in export movement of yellow peas to India alonf with traditional destinations.

The first imports of peas by India after duties were temporarily eliminated until March 31 were recorded in December. A total of 10,980 metric tons (MT) entered the country, with Lithuania named as the origin for 9,500 MT and the United Arab Emirates for the balance.

Several cargoes have since been received from Russia, while the first direct shipments from Canada left the country in December, with further parcels shipped in January and possibly in the week ending February 11.
