Edible Beans Find Firmer Footing

PANAMA - Sep 15/23 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on a generally firmer note, helped by expectations of aower available supplies in 2023-24 than during the previous three marketing years.

Last week's USDA production updates did not include dry edible beans, but some processors were taken aback by chickpeas yields reported for North Dakota. If the relationship between yields for chickpeas and bean in the state during the last five years is replicated, bean output in North Dakota would be much lower than previously estimated.

The net impact of the various concerns was that the U.S. dry edible bean price index gained 1.8 points on the week, closing at 98.9.
