Canaryseed Holds Firm On Estimates
PANAMA - Sep 15/23 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets maintainined their recent mixed trajectory during the past week, with products from Canada remaining firm despite weakness in the United States.
The latest production update from Statistics Canada maintained the view that canaryseed output will be down from last year, projecting a harvest of just under 124,000 metric tons (MT), compared to 159,300 last year and the previous five year average of 171,000.
At 1,066 pounds, the federal agency's model based average yields were close to the 1,085 pounds reported by growers to Saskatchewan Agriculture, resulting in no real surprise in the estimated size of this year's harvest. Provincial updates are expected before Statistics Canada releases its final, survey based estimates in December.
