U.S. Spring Wheat Crop Declines
WASHINGTON - Aug 11/23 - SNS -- Production pf spring wheat other than durum is forecast at 450 million bushels, down 6% from the previous forecast, and down 7% from 2022, according to the USDA.
The United States yield is forecast at 41.8 bushels per acre, down 3.4 bushels from the previous forecast and down 4.4 bushel from a year ago. Of the total production, 413 million bushels are Hard Red Spring wheat, down 7% from last year.
Acreage updates were made in several States based on a thorough review of all available data. Total planted area, at 11.3 million acres, is up 2% from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2023, and up 4% from 2022. The area expected to be harvested for grain or seed is expected to total 10.8 million acres, up 2% from the previous forecast and up 3% from 2022.
