Lentils Maintain Firm Footing

PANAMA - Mar 10/23 - SNS -- International lentil markets continued to strengthen during the past week, influenced by demand optimism and worries there could be a major decline in plantings in North America.

The situation on the continent will gain some clarity as to the intentions of growers with on March 31 for the United States and April 26 for Canada.

In the meantime, markets were surprised by the latest production estimates for Australian lentils. That country's ABARES boost estimated output in 2022 from its December estimate of 1.053 million metric tons (MT) to a record 1.412 million in last week's report.
