Lentils Waiting On Final USDA Estimates
PANAMA - Jan 6/23 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading somewhat mixed, with some origins seeking prices which will attract additional demand.
There is some degree of anticipation in markets for the final crop production estimates from the USDA, which are due on January 12. Major adjustments are not expected in lentils from earlier estimates, which estimated the 2022 harvest at 220,000 metric tons (MT) from 670,000 acres, compared to 151,000 MT from 708,000 acres in 2021.
Many exporters remain disappointed with the depth of demand from India, though it remains one of the world's largest destinations, along with Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
