U.S. Rice Area Sinks 7%
WASHINGTON - Jun 30/22 - SNS -- Area planted to rice in 2022 is expected to total 2.34 million acres, down 7% from 2021, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2022.
Area for harvest is forecast at 2.31 million acres, down 7% from last year. Long grain rice planted area decreased 3% from last year. Nationally, medium grain acres decreased by 21% from 2021 to 417,000 acres and if realized will be the lowest on record. Short grain area, estimated at 21,000 acres for the Nation, is down 42%, or 15,000 acres, compared to the 2021 planted acres.
