Peas Maintain Strong Tone

PANAMA - Nov 6/20 - SNS -- International field pea markets ended the week's trading on a generally strong note, reflecting strong movement into export channels and declining grower selling interest in some origins.

Canadian farmers took advantage of relatively strong bid levels during and after harvest, with 36% of all peas believed to be available on farms delivered facilities reporting to the Canadian Grain Commission, compared to 30% during the first three months of the 2019-20 marketing campaign.

Official export data for the first two months of the current marketing year show that China remains the primary destination for Canadian peas, with shipments approaching 734,000 metric tons (MT), compared to just over 546,000 last year.
