MELBOURNE - Feb 19/19 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends across the Bight and Victoria, directing a southwesterly air flow over the State. A cold front approaching from the southwest is forecast to cross Bass Strait during Wednesday. During Thursday a high pressure system will move from waters south of the Bight to be centred just southwest of Victoria, then drift slowly southwards on Friday, passing south of Tasmania over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayAreas of smoke haze over East Gippsland. Partly cloudy in the south, clear in the north. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 20 FebruaryDry over most of the State. Isolated light showers near the southwest coast, extending a little further inland and to the central district and south Gippsland during the day. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy across the south, mild to warm and mostly sunny over the north. Light to moderate southwest to southerly winds.Fire Danger - High.Thursday 21 FebruaryIsolated light showers in the south, contracting to the southeast during the morning then clearing. Cool and mostly cloudy over the south, mild to warm and sunny across the north. Moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Friday 22 FebruaryDry. Warm and sunny over the north. Cool to mild in the south with morning cloud contracting to the coast. Moderate to locally fresh southeast to southerly winds.Saturday 23 FebruaryDry apart from isolated showers in far east Gippsland. Warm and sunny over the north. Mild to warm in the south with morning cloud, contracting to east Gippsland.
