Slow Pea Seeding Progress

WASHINGTON - May 7/18 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's field pea crops remains behind both last year and the recent five year average.

Conditions are warming up in Montana and allowing fieldwork to progress. Topsoil moisture conditions for the state were 80% adequate to surplus, below last year’s 88%. Subsoil moisture conditions were 70% adequate to surplus which is below last year’s 92%.

Topsoil moisture supplies in North Dakota rated 10% very short, 34 short, 52 adequate, and 4 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 16% very short, 34 short, 48 adequate, and 2 surplus.
