Peas Hold Firm

PANAMA - Jun 10/17 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their relatively firm tone through the past week, helped by continuing fill in demand among exporters.

Markets remain concerned about the end of the fumigation exemption on June 30, which coincides with a seasonal slow down in export movement. Bulk shipments would be expected to increase significantly after harvest, but there is uncertainty about physical demand from the Indian subcontinent.

By contrast, there is the potential for feed pea sales to Spain to increase in the coming months. The country has suffered a serious drought, which is expected to result in a steep decline in winter grain production. It also expected to affect spring oilseed plantings, which may see increased protein requirements in the coming marketing year.
