LITTLE ROCK - Sep 22/14 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, long and medium grain prices trending steady in Texas and Louisiana. However, Arkansas long and medium grain prices tending steady to 1.50 lower. Arkansas Parboiled prices steady to 2.00 lower with all other areas remaining steady. Second heads and Brewers remain steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices mostly steady, however instances of 15.00 higher in Texas; rice millfeed not well tested; hulls mostly steady, instances 5.00-10.00 lower in Louisiana. Louisiana Rough Rice price not fully established, however a weak undertone was noted. Farmers opting to store their rice and wait for better market price results. In California, medium and short grain prices mostly steady, instances 1.00 higher. Second heads prices steady to 1.00 higher. Brewers prices steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices mostly steady; hulls steady. New crop rice harvest just getting under way. New crop rice is coming in with high moisture content which is requiring longer and slower drying times. Drought conditions still present throughout California which has lowered estimated harvest acreages. CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday Sep 19th, Nov 14 closed .08 higher at 12.70 and Jan 15 closed .08 higher at 12.89. US dollar index on Friday settled at 84.74.
