LITTLE ROCK - Sep 2/14 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, long grain prices mostly steady to 2.00 lower; medium grain prices steady; parboiled prices mostly steady to 3.00 lower; second heads steady; brewers steady to weak. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady to 10.00 higher, mostly 5.00 higher; rice millfeed steady to 10.00 higher; hulls steady to 10.00 lower. Louisiana new crop Rough Rice .29 lower, however very limited current trades as most farmers holding for higher prices. Louisiana and Texas currently about 70% completed rice harvest. In California, old crop medium and short grain prices steady; second heads and brewers steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady; hulls steady. Currently, very limited trade with most producers waiting to see what new crop brings. Majority of farmers have shut water off and waiting for fields to dry. Harvest looks to start in about 3 to 4 weeks. Drought conditions still present throughout California. On the CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday August 29th, Sep 14 contract closed down .10 at 12.585, Nov 14 closed .15 lower at 12.665, Jan 15 closed down .15 at 12.86. US dollar index on Friday August 29th settled at 82.79.
