U.S. Spring Wheat Area Up 10%

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/14 - SNS -- Area seeded to spring wheat other than durum is estimated at 12.7 million acres, up 10% from 2013, according to the USDA's seeded area report for 2014.

Of this total, about 12.0 million acres are Hard Red Spring wheat. North Dakota, the largest producing other spring wheat State, is estimated at 5.90 million acres, up 16% from last year. As of June 1, 83% of the intended North Dakota other spring wheat crop had been planted, 19 percentage points ahead of last year.

Harvested area is expected to total 12.4 million acres, 9% above 2013. As of June 22, 71% of the crop was rated in good to excellent condition, compared with 70% at the same time last year.
