U.S. Rye Crop Jumps 10%

WASHINGTON - Jan 10/14 - SNS -- Rye production in the United States for 2013 is estimated at 7.67 million bushels, up 10% from 2012, according to the USDA's final production estimates for the 2013 crop.

Harvested area totaled 278,000 acres, up 30,000 acres from 2012. The United States yield, at 27.6 bushels per acre, is down 0.4 bushel from the previous year. Favorable growing conditions in the Southern Great Plains and the Southeast led to increases in harvested acres from a year earlier.
