Winter Wheat Area Declines

WASHINGTON - Jan 10/14 - SNS -- Winter wheat seeded area for 2014 is expected to total 41.9 million acres, down 3% from 2013, according to the USDA.

Approximate class acreage breakdowns are: Hard Red Winter, 30.1 million; Soft Red Winter, 8.44 million; and White Winter, 3.39 million.

Seeding began in August but by the end of September was slightly behind the 5-year average pace. However, by the end of October, seeding had progressed slightly ahead of the 5-year average pace.
