Peas Hold Firm Tone

PANAMA - May 21/21 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week as exporters continued to cover outstanding sales commitments and growers remain somewhat reluctant to sell their remaining inventories.

Though seeding of peas is in its final stages across much of North America, farmers remain busy with planting other crops. That work plus worries about initial crop development is keeping many reluctant from selling additional inventory until they feel more confident about this year's yield potential.

Markets were somewhat pleased by a recent report on China's livestock feed industry because of the implication demand for peas should continue as that sector works to diversify both sources of supply and ingredients.
