Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 31/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards while extending a weakening ridge along the Queensland east coast, and a relatively dry southerly flow across most of Queensland. Southeasterly trade winds will gradually ease as the ridge weakens. An upper trough and an associated surface trough will move over the southern Queensland today, with the trough system moving eastwards across the southeast of the state this evening, and off the southern coast by early Tuesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA slight to medium chance of showers about exposed coastal regions. A slight to medium chance of a shower and possibly a few thunderstorms about the southeast, with the passage of a trough system. Areas of early morning fog in the east. Maximum temperatures a little below average in the southwest in the wake of the trough system, near average elsewhere. Moderate northeast to southeast winds ahead of the trough, moderate southwesterly winds in its wake. Winds fresh at times along the northeast coast.Tuesday 2 JuneThe trough moves east off the southern Queensland coast early in the day, with a large high developing over South Australia extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland. This will lead to fine conditions almost throughout the state, although a few showers and possibly one or two thunderstorms in the southeast should clear offshore in the early hours of the morning. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.Wednesday 3 JuneA large high develops over South Australia and extends a strong ridge over southern Queensland, leading to fine conditions for the majority of the state. A few showers persist along the exposed east coast in the trade flow. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.Thursday 4 JuneA large high strengthens over southern Australia, extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland. Leading to fine conditions throughout most of the state. A few showers along the east coast due to onshore trade flow. Cooler conditions though most of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.Friday until SundayA large high over southern Australia moves slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea and extends a strong ridge over southern Queensland for the remainder of the period. This will lead to fine conditions almost throughout the state, although a few showers persist along the east coast. Cooler conditions will persist through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
