Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 31/20 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over New Zealand is moving slowly eastwards while extending a weakening ridge along the Queensland east coast, and a relatively dry southerly flow across most of Queensland. Southeasterly trade winds will gradually build in moisture along the east coast, with shower activity returning to exposed parts. An upper trough and an associated surface trough will move into southwestern Queensland today, with the trough system moving eastwards across the state, and and off the southern coast by early Tuesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of SundayA slight to medium chance of shower over the exposed coastal regions, increasing to a moderate to high chance about the northeast tropical coast. A slight to medium chance of a shower developing further inland in the southeast during the day as moisture spreads further west. Maximum and minimum temperatures generally remain near average. Moderate southeast to easterly winds, fresh at times along the east coast.Monday 1 JuneThe ridge and onshore flow will weaken along the east coast, with coastal shower activity becoming more isolated. The trough over the southern interior will track eastwards into the southeast of the state, with isolated showers and possibly a few thunderstorms expected to develop in the southeast interior.Tuesday 2 JuneThe trough appears likely to move east off the southern Queensland coast early in the day, with a large high developing over South Australia extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland. This will lead to fine conditions almost throughout the state, although a few showers and possibly one or two thunderstorms in the southeast should clear offshore in the early hours of the morning. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.Wednesday 3 JuneA large high develops over South Australia and extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland, leading to fine conditions for the majority of the state. A few showers persist along the exposed east coast in the trade flow. Cooler conditions will also spread through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream.Thursday until SaturdayA large high strengthens over southern Australia, extending a strong ridge over southern Queensland for the remainder of the period. This will lead to fine conditions almost throughout the state, although a few showers may persist along the north tropical coast, and then possibly spread southwards along the east coast late in the period. Cooler conditions will persist through much of the state in the southwest to southerly airstream. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
