Mixed Week in Peas
PANAMA - Mar 22/19 - SNS -- International field pea markets posted a mixed finish during the past week against ongoing movement of product into export markets.
Unofficial, preliminary data suggests around 203,100 metric tons (MT) of bulk peas were loaded for export during February, compared to 109,400 MT during the same month last year. Breakdowns by destination will not be available until the Canadian Grain Commission released its summary for the month and Statistics Canada releases official trade data on April 17.
The pace of movement has been stronger than initially expected because of a significant increase in demand for feed peas from China. Markets are uncertain what impact China's recent decision to stop buying canola from Canada will have on demand for peas.
