WASHINGTON - Jun 29/18 - SNS -- Dry field pea area has sunk 22% from last to 881,000 acres, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for this year.
Area for harvest is forecast at 833,500 acres, down 21% from the previous year. Planted acreage is down in all States except Oregon and Nebraska. In North Dakota, as of June 24, blooming reached 44%, ahead of the 5-year average of 35%. In Montana, as of June 24, dry peas blooming was 23%, 35 percentage points below the 5-year average.

Planted area for Austrian winter peas is estimated at 14,500 acres, down 45% from 2017. This is the lowest planted acreage since 2000. Growers in Idaho and Montana decreased plantings from a year ago.
