MELBOURNE - Feb 22/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system, the remnants of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kelvin, was over the Bight on Thursday afternoon, and will continue to move southeastwards and weaken, and is expected to be centred over the southeast of the State later Friday. A cold front will move over the south on Saturday, and a strong high will develop southwest of the Bight later Saturday. This high will then move slowly eastwards to be centred near Tasmania on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas near southern coasts and over the South East districts. A slight to medium chance of showers and possible thunderstorms over western districts, including Eyre Peninsula, possibly extending into Yorke Peninsula this evening. A mild to warm evening in the south, grading to warm to hot in the north. A slight to medium chance of showers over the remainder of the agricultural area. Warm to hot in the south, grading to very hot in the north. Humid with moderate to fresh northeast to southeasterly winds, shifting moderate to fresh northwest to southwesterly over western parts.Friday 23 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, West Coast district and southern Pastoral districts. Humid in parts. The chance of thunderstorms on and east of the Mount Lofty and Flinders Ranges in the afternoon. Warm to hot with mainly moderate northeast to northwesterly winds, ahead of a milder southwesterly change in the west extending slowly eastwards, reaching eastern border districts late evening.Saturday 24 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and the West Coast district increasing to a medium to high chance about southern coasts, and about the ranges in the Mid North and Mount Lofty Ranges districts. A slight chance of a shower near the eastern border north of about Broken Hill in the afternoon. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, but light northerly winds in the far northeast during the morning. Becoming cooler over the agricultural area and West Coast district, grading to warm to hot further north.Sunday 25 FebruaryA slight chance of showers near the coasts and southern ranges, clearing during the afternoon. Cool grading to mild to warm in the far north. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds, easing later.Monday 26 February Fine throughout. Mild about southern coasts grading to warm in the north. Mainly light southeast to northeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Monday are expected to be less than 2 mm, with higher totals of 5 to 15 mm possible over the southern agricultural area. Tuesday until ThursdayA slight to medium chance of showers and possible thunderstorms in the far northeast, extending southwards to reach areas northeast of about Broken Hill to Coober Pedy on Thursday. Fine over the remainder apart from the slight chance of showers near southern and western coasts on Thursday.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:30 am CDT Friday.Product IDS10033 Notice Board 31 additional forecast locations for SA Changes to state Weather and Warnings pages --> BoM is upgrading its IT systems in South Australia on Tuesday 5 December 2017.
