MELBOURNE - Feb 20/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system centred south of Tasmania will continue to move eastwards and weaken today. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kelvin over the north of Western Australia is expected to continue to move south to southeastwards to be over the Bight on Thursday, then move towards Tasmania on Friday. A cold front will move across southern coasts on Saturday then a high pressure system will develop over the Bight on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayA slight to medium chance of showers and possible thunderstorms in the far west, with a chance of showers over most of the West Coast district, southern Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. Showers tending to rain west of Nullarbor. A warm evening in the south, warm to hot in the north. Mainly light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, fresher about the coast in the south and west.Wednesday 21 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the west of the North West Pastoral district. Patchy rain extending over western and southern districts, eventually reaching areas south of a line about Tarcoola to Clare to Keith by the end of the day. Mild to warm in the south, grading to hot to very hot in the north. Humidity increasing from the west during the day. Moderate to fresh northeast to southeasterly winds.Thursday 22 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the North West Pastoral district, West Coast district and the remainder of the agricultural area, tending to rain over the southern and western coasts. Isolated thunderstorms developing over the east of the North West Pastoral district and the north of Eyre Peninsula. Warm to hot in the south, grading to very hot in the north. Increasing humidity in the moderate northeast to northerly winds ahead of a milder, fresh west to southwesterly change in the far west in the morning, extending over western districts during the day. Winds strong at times about the west of the West Coast district.Friday 23 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, West Coast district and the southwest of the North West Pastoral district. Humid in the far northeast with the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms mainly over eastern districts north of about Lameroo. Warm to hot in the south, grading to very hot in the north. Moderate northeast to northerly winds with a milder southwesterly change in the west extending throughout during the day.Saturday 24 February A slight to medium chance of showers over the southern agricultural area and the West Coast district increasing to medium to high about the far southern coasts. Showers easing and contracting to southern and far western coasts by the end of the day. Generally mild to warm the south grading to hot in the north. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Saturday are expected to be generally less tan 2 mm, increasing to patchy areas of 2 to 15 mm about the southern agricultural area. with possible isolated falls of 10 to 20 mm in the far west of the West Coast district. Local falls of 20 to 40 mm are also possible in the far west, particularly with thunderstorms. Sunday until TuesdayA slight chance of showers about the southern and western coasts at times. A slight chance of thundery showers in the far northeast. Temperatures gradually rising early next week to be mild to warm over agricultural areas and warm to hot in the north.
