MELBOURNE - Aug 20/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is situated off the New South Wales coast while a trough approaches from the west. This trough will weaken as it crosses the state later today and Tuesday, with the region's airmass remaining too dry to generate much rain. A subtle ridge of high pressure will develop in it's wake, before a cold front skims across southern parts of the state late Wednesday and Thursday. Behind this, another ridge looks set to extend across from the west at the end of the week. Forecast for the rest of MondayPatchy rain or light showers in the west this morning, extending to eastern areas in the afternoon or evening, and becoming more likely over the southern inland. Snow developing on the Alps above 1100 metres. Morning frost about the ranges and slopes. Daytime temperatures above average in the northwest, but below average elsewhere. Northeast to northwesterly winds, freshening in the west during the afternoon. Hazardous surf conditions along the coast north from the Illawarra, contracting to the far north later in the day.Tuesday 22 AugustFine apart from the chance of a shower on the far north coast. Mostly sunny. Morning frost about the ranges and slopes. Daytime temperatures near average in the southwest and above average elsewhere, especially in the northeast. Winds light and variable, becoming west to southwesterly over the inland.Wednesday 23 AugustA few showers over the southern inland, mainly about western slopes of the southern ranges, falling as snow above 1400 metres. The chance of a shower on the far south coast. Fine elsewhere. Morning frost about the ranges and slopes. Daytime temperatures near average in the southwest and above average elsewhere, especially in the northeast. Winds generally light southwest to southeasterly.Thursday 24 AugustA few showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, particularly about central parts. Snow showers above 1100 metres on the southern ranges. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Morning frost patches on the highlands. Daytime temperatures near average in the south and above average in the north.
