MELBOURNE - Jan 16/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will reach western Victoria on Tuesday afternoon then extend over the rest of the State later in the day and evening. A weak cold front will then cross southern Victoria early on Wednesday. The next high pressure system will pass to the south of Tasmania on Thursday. Another low pressure trough is expected to extend from the interior down through South Australia on Thursday to reach western Victoria Thursday night. This trough will cross Victoria on Friday, with a low pressure centre expected to develop along the trough as it moves eastwards across the State. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine, hot and sunny across inland parts of the State, but cloud thickening over the southwest with patchy rain developing late afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly wind ahead of a milder southwest to southerly wind change developing near the west coast in the early afternoon then extending further eastwards and inland in the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger - Very High reaching Severe over the northwest.Wednesday 18 JanuaryA band of patchy rain over southern Victoria contracting northwards and weakening by early afternoon. Dry on the far northwest. Mild in the south grading to warm in the north with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Thursday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers developing over the northwest during the morning, then gradually spreading southeastwards during the day, but not reaching the east until the evening. Mild in the south and warmer in the north. Southeasterly winds becoming light inland, but fresh seabreezes developing along the coast during the afternoon.Friday 20 JanuaryRain areas contracting east and clearing, but scattered showers to follow over southern and mountain districts.
