MELBOURNE - Jan 16/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over the far northeast of the State will move southwestwards and another trough in the far southwest early will gradually extend northeastwards today. These troughs will merge later today over the north of the State and remain stationary on Wednesday. Another high will pass to the south of the Bight during Wednesday then a broad area of low pressure is expected to develop over the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIncreasing humidity over the Pastoral districts to the north of about Coober Pedy and Leigh Creek, with the slight to medium chance of showers and possible thunderstorms. A slight to medium chance of rain west of Nullarbor, and about Kangaroo Island and the Lower South East, mostly during the afternoon and evening. Fine otherwise. Warm about Kangaroo Island and the Lower South East, very hot elsewhere with light to moderate northerly winds freshening during the morning then shifting milder, moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly over the south and west in the late afternoon or evening.Wednesday 18 JanuaryHumid with a medium to high chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Pastoral and Flinders districts, less likely over the far south of the Pastoral districts. A slight to medium chance of rain west of Nullarbor and south of about Port Lincoln to Lameroo. Fine elsewhere. Mild to warm in the south grading to hot to very hot in the north. Moderate southeasterly winds, tending fresh south to southeasterly near the coasts, and light to moderate northeasterly in the far north.Thursday 19 JanuaryHumid. A high to very high chance of rain south of about Port Lincoln to Lameroo. A high to very high chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms developing elsewhere, mainly during the afternoon and evening, less likely in the far north and west. Warm in the southeast grading to hot to very hot elsewhere. Mainly moderate northeast to northwesterly winds, tending southwest to southeasterly in the west and south.Friday 20 January A high to very high chance of showers about eastern districts, mainly during the morning, and about the far northwest, a medium chance otherwise but less likely in the far northeast and Eyre Peninsula. Thunderstorms possible about the Pastoral and Flinders districts, and about the Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges and Riverland districts in the early morning. Mild to warm in the south and west grading to very hot in the northeast. Moderate to fresh southeast to southwesterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Friday are expected to be generally 10 to 20 mm, with isolated falls of 20 to 40 mm possible with thunderstorms. Saturday until MondayA slight to medium chance of showers about the Pastoral and West Coast districts on Saturday, increasing to a medium to high chance of showers and possible thunderstorms in the far west.
