Record Crops Do Not Derail Peas
PANAMA - Dec 11/16 - SNS -- International field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week despite confirmation that Canadian output reached a record 4.84 million metric tons (MT).
Production in Canada is up from 3.2 million MT last year and well above the previous five-year average of 3.36 million MT of field peas produced annually.
Markets also received confirmation Australia production is up significantly from last year, leaping from 204,500 to 370,000 MT of mainly dun type peas.
World field pea production estimates now total 13.54 million MT for 2016, up from 11.13 million last year and well above the previous five-year average of 10.86 million MT.
