MELBOURNE - Oct 23/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An upper trough extends over the tropics, contracting offshore completely during Tuesday, while an associated surface trough is moving north along the tropical east coast. A high over western New South Wales will shift eastwards into the southern Coral Sea during Tuesday, extending a ridge throughout most of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA medium to high chance of showers and possible storms about the northern and central tropics. A slight chance of showers about the exposed coast in the southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Temperatures will remain lower than average over much of the state. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds in most parts.Tuesday 25 OctoberThe high will shift into the southern Coral Sea, maintaining the ridge and the medium to high chance of showers along the eastern Peninsula coast. Showers are also possible about remaining parts of the Peninsula and about the Gulf coast. Fine and sunny across the rest of the state. Temperatures should return close to average in most parts.Wednesday 26 OctoberThe east coast ridge will persist on Wednesday as the high moves east across the southern Coral Sea. A slight to medium chance of showers about the northern tropical coast in a moist onshore flow, with showers also possible about the Gulf coast and the Peninsula coast elsewhere. Fine and sunny conditions will continue for the rest of the state, although some high cloud will move through southern Queensland. Temperatures will tend warmer than the average over southern and western districts.Thursday 27 OctoberAn upper trough will most likely shift east across southern districts, increasing the chances of showers and possibly storms in the southeast quarter of the state. The high will shift further to the southeast towards northern New Zealand, but still maintain a weakening ridge along the northern Queensland coast with a slight chance of showers. Another high over the Great Australian Bight will move towards southeastern Australia.Friday until SundayThe southeast of the state may remain under the influence of an upper trough with showers and storms possible during the outlook period in the southeast, and possible extending to parts of central Queensland at times. The next high will move over southeastern Australia on Friday into the Tasman Sea on Saturday, firming the ridge along the east coast from Saturday with a slight to medium chance of showers in a moist, onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere in the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
