Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 22/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An upper trough will move eastwards across central and eastern Queensland during the rest of today and shift off the east coast during Sunday. An associated surface trough should move off the southeast coast late today with the coastal trough moving north through the Capricornia and Central Coast on Sunday. A new high in the western Great Australian Bight will move eastwards across southern Australia over the next few days, extending a ridge and cool air into Queensland in the wake of the surface trough.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA band of cloud with patchy rain areas will move eastwards across central and southern Queensland, reaching the southeast coast late in the day. The medium to high chance of a shower and the chance of a storm in the far northern interior, with the slight chance of a shower over parts of the Peninsula. Cooler in the southwest of the state and in the central and southern interior beneath the cloud band. Mostly moderate east to northeasterly winds in the east, with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds extending from the west to most parts during the day.Sunday 23 OctoberCloudy and patchy rain slowly clearing in the Wide Bay and Burnett, Capricornia and Central Coast districts during the day. Medium to high chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms about the southern tropics, extending inland to the southern and central tropical interior. A slight chance of showers on the western Cape York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny in southwest parts. Temperatures will be much lower than average over the interior.Monday 24 OctoberThe trough system is likely to linger about the northeast tropics leading to a medium to high chance of showers and possible storms. A high pressure system will move east across southeast Australia, extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A slight chance of showers about the exposed coast in the southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Temperatures will remain lower than average over much of the state.Tuesday 25 OctoberA ridge will extend across most of Queensland with fine and sunny conditions for most of the state, although some showers are likely about the northeast tropical coast, and there is the chance of a thunderstorm about parts of the Peninsula and the Gulf Country coast. Temperatures should return close to average in most parts.Wednesday 26 OctoberThe ridge will persist on Wednesday with fine and sunny conditions for most of the state, although some showers are likely about parts of the tropical coasts. Temperatures will tend warmer than the average over southern and western districts.Thursday until SaturdayAn upper trough may move across southern districts on Thursday, increasing the chances of showers and possibly storms in the southeast of the state during the outlook period. Temperatures are also likely to be slightly warmer than normal during these days.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
