MELBOURNE - Aug 27/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

A relatively dry airmass has become established through much of the state as a ridge extends eastwards across Queensland from a high over New South Wales, and this dry air will remain in place over the weekend. Another upper level trough is expected to approach the southwest of the state during Tuesday, extending a cloud band into western parts of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and mostly sunny conditions are expected for most of the state, aside from a slight chance of showers about parts of the east coast north of Cairns, and about the far southeast. Cool to cold conditions are likely about the state apart from the far northeast, with extensive early frost areas expected over the southern and central inland. Mostly moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Sunday 28 AugustThe high is expected to move over northern New South Wales, maintaining a ridge across eastern Queensland. Fine and sunny conditions are expected for most of the state, aside from the slight chance of a shower about the far northeast coast. Some frost areas may continue over the southern Darling Downs and about the Carnarvon Ranges.Tuesday 30 AugustThe high should continue to move east across the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge along the east Queensland coast. Showers are possible north of about Fraser Island in an onshore flow. An upper trough and associated surface trough are expected to approach the southwest of the state during the day, extending a cloud band with showers and patchy rain into southwest parts.Wednesday until FridayThe high pressure system will move further east through the Tasman Sea, reaching New Zealand by Thursday. The high will extend a weakening ridge through Queensland, with showers possible along parts of the east coast in the onshore flow.
