MELBOURNE - Jul 21/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A vigorous cold front is expected to reach the far west coast late morning and move eastwards, reaching the Victorian border late evening. A series of further fronts will move across the State on Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayThe slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, west coast and south of the North East Pastoral districts, increasing to a high to very high chance over the southern agricultural area. Local heavy falls about the Mount Lofty Ranges and Lower South East. Possible squally thunderstorms about Kangaroo Island, Fleurieu Peninsula and the South East districts in the afternoon and evening, with possible small hail in the evening. Warm in the northeast with moderate to fresh northwest winds, ahead of a colder, fresh to strong west to southwesterly change extending throughout, possibly reaching gale force near the coasts.Saturday 23 JulyPossible early frost over the far northwest. The slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and west coast, with possible small hail in the South East district in the morning. Cool to cold throughout, with southwest to northwesterly winds easing.Sunday 24 JulyPossible early frost over the far northwest. A slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and the south of the pastoral districts increasing to a high to very high chance over the southern agricultural area. Possible thunderstorms about southern coasts. Cool with freshening northwesterly winds, shifting colder fresh to strong west to southwesterly.Monday 25 July Possible early frost over the far northwest. A slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and the south of the pastoral districts increasing to a high chance over the southern agricultural area and very high over the Lower South East. Cool with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, shifting colder fresh to strong west to southwesterly. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Monday are expected to be 40 to 80 mm over the Mount Lofty Ranges, 30 to 40 mm about southern coasts and 10 to 20 mm over the remainder of the southern agricultural area. 2 to 10 mm over the northern agricultural area and less than 2 mm over the south of the pastoral districts. Tuesday until ThursdayShowers over the agricultural area and west coast on Tuesday, contracting to the southern agricultural area on Wednesday.
