15% of Seized Pulses Resold

DELHI - Nov 30/15 - SNS -- Only 15.5% of all pulses seized by state governments as part of India's effort to stop hoarding have been disposed of in the market.

Representing roughly eight hours of consumption, government officials boast that 20,780 metric tons (MT) of seized product has been "auctioned or off loaded through other options in the market to increase availability. This will help to moderate the prices further."

In a separate statement, India's Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said prices of pigeon peas and urad were unchanged during the past week in major retail markets. They had previously eased in response to the anti-hoarding efforts as well as discussions between government and wholesalers aimed at voluntary price controls.
