Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 5/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge extends over the east Queensland coast into the interior of Queensland, with dry and sunny conditions persisting over much of the state during the next couple of days. The ridge will be reinforced mid week as a new high shifts east over southern Australia into the Tasman Sea. Winds will then tend more moist onshore about the east Queensland coast, with moisture also gradually extending into the central and southern interior late in the week.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and mostly sunny over the interior and in the southeast of the state. Possible early frost patches over the southern interior, particularly on the Granite Belt. The slight chance of a shower about the east coast north of Fraser Island, more likely near the northeast tropical coast. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds about the east tropical coast. Moderate southerly winds in the west, tending southwest to northwesterly over southern districts. Light winds elsewhere.Tuesday 7 JulyThe new high will shift east over South Australia while another high centre will develop south of Tasmania. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will extend across much of the state, with just the slight chance of a shower near the northeast tropical coast in an onshore wind flow. Some early frost remains likely over the far southern and southeast interior.Wednesday 8 JulyThe high centres will shift further east into the Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Winds will gradually tend more onshore over the southern Queensland coast, resulting in a medium to high chance of showers developing, with the slight chance extending west to the Great Dividing Range during the day. The slight chance of a shower will also persist about the east tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue elsewhere. Some early frosts are likely over the southern and southeast interior.Thursday 9 JulyThe high in the Tasman Sea should shift further east whilst maintaining a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. An upper trough will most likely approach the southwest of the state late in the day, resulting in the slight chance of a shower in the southwest. Moist onshore winds will result in the slight to medium chance of showers extending through southern central and southeastern Queensland, increasing to a high chance near the southern coast. The slight to medium chance of showers will also occur about the east tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue elsewhere. Early frosts are only a slight chance in the southeast interior due to the increasing moisture.Friday until SundayThe high should shift further east across the Tasman Sea during the outlook period with the ridge along the east coast of Queensland gradually weakening. The trough in the west should move east across the state on Friday and should clear off the central and southern coast on Saturday. The trough should generate some showers or thunderstorms with its passage, particularly over the southern interior and southeast of the state. Another upper trough may move across the state on Sunday, with a cold airmass developing in its wake.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
