MELBOURNE - Feb 28/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state to the southeast interior and will remain in the same general area over the next few days. A mid level high over central Australia will maintain hot temperatures across the southern interior well into next week. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA medium chance of showers and storms over the eastern tropics, and also in a broad band from the northwest to the state's southeast interior. A slight chance of showers about eastern coastal areas. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds through the southern interior. Light winds elsewhere.Sunday 1 MarchA medium chance of showers and storms from the northwest to the southeast interior, and also about the far north. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Hot over the the southwest of the state. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds through the southern interior. Light winds elsewhere.Monday 2 MarchA surface trough from the Northwest district, through the central interior and into the southeast interior. A medium chance of showers and storms near and northeast of the trough over northern districts. Onshore winds about the east will lead to a slight chance of showers over remaining eastern districts. Fine and hot over the southwest of the state.Tuesday 3 MarchThe surface trough will drift into western Queensland. A more stable airmass will be in place over most of the state, though showers and storms possible over the northwest of the state. Slight chance of showers about the tropical coast. Fine elsewhere. Hot over the southwest of the state.Wednesday 4 MarchThe surface trough will remain over western Queensland. The more stable airmass will remain in place over most of the state, though showers and storms possible over the northwest of the state. Slight chance of showers about the tropical coast. Slight chance of an afternoon shower about the southeast interior. Fine elsewhere. Hot over the southwest of the state.Thursday until SaturdayThe surface trough will remain over the interior of the state. A series of weak upper troughs will move through Queensland, with a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms over parts of inland Queensland. Onshore winds will push some shower activity onto coastal parts of the state.
