Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 27/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state to the southeast interior and will remain slow moving over the next few days. An upper level trough is moving over southeast Queensland today, producing an increase in instability across much of central and southeast Queensland, before moving offshore on Saturday. A mid level high over Central Australia will maintain hot temperatures across the southern interior well into next week.
Forecast for the rest of FridayA high chance of showers and storms over the northern reaches of the Peninsula district. A broad band of showers and thunderstorms, stretching from the Gulf Country to the southeast of the state. Some storms may be severe about the central and southeast interior. Mostly fine about much of the east coast with only a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms reaching the coast late in the day or evening. Fine in the southern interior and southwest of the state. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds through eastern districts. Moderate to fresh southwest to southwest winds through the southern interior. Light winds elsewhere.Saturday 28 FebruaryA medium chance of showers and storms over the eastern tropics, and also in a broad band from the northwest district to the state's southeast interior. A slight to moderate chance of showers about the state's southeast. Mostly fine about the reminder of the east coast, though there is the chance of some showers and storms moving across from inland late in the day. Fine and hot over the southwest and southern interior. Moderate to fresh southwest to southwest winds through the southern interior. Light winds elsewhere.Sunday 1 MarchA medium chance of showers and storms over most of the state to the east of a broad surface trough, roughly extending from Mt Isa to Cunnamulla, although much of the east coast should remain fine and mostly sunny. Fine and hot over the state's southwest.Monday 2 MarchA medium chance of showers and storms over the northern and eastern districts to the east of surface trough in place over the interior, although much of the east coast should remain fine and mostly sunny. Fine and very hot over the southern interior and southwest of the state.Tuesday 3 MarchA medium chance of showers and storms over the northern tropics and northwest. Fine and mostly sunny along the east coast. Fine and very hot over the southern interior and southwest of the state.Wednesday until FridayA weak high over the Tasman Sea should push the surface trough and associated showers and storms into Queensland's interior. Showers and storms are also likely to persist over the northern tropics. Remaining very hot in the southern interior.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
