MELBOURNE - Feb 26/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located near New Zealand, while a surface trough lingers across the northeast inland. A weak cold front moved across southern Victoria on Thursday, and will be followed by a high pressure ridge which will cross Tasmania later Friday to combine with the high over the Tasman Sea. A cold front will then cross south of the Bight to reach western Victoria Saturday afternoon and push eastwards to clear eastern areas of the Sate by early Sunday. A high pressure ridge will extend across southern Victoria later Sunday. Another cold front will move rapidly across Bight waters on Monday, approaching Tasmania late in the day. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and the risk of a thunderstorms over the east ranges and Gippsland, clearing during the evening. Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds easing.Friday 27 FebruaryFine apart from the chance of light showers in the south. A warm day inland but mild in the south with light southerly winds and afternoon sea breezes.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Saturday 28 FebruaryA very warm to hot and mostly sunny day with north to northwesterly winds freshening ahead of a cooler gusty southwesterly change reaching the west in the early afternoon and extending across central areas late in the day to reach the east at night. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing near and behind the change, mainly on and south of the dividing range.Sunday 1 MarchScattered showers contracting eastwards and becoming isolated in the south and clearing later. Cool in the south, mild to warm in the north with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Monday 2 MarchEarly fog patches inland then a fine, mainly sunny day.
