Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 22/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the south Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge to eastern Victoria, while a low pressure trough is located over the far southwest. The trough will move move eastwards across the State during Monday as an associated cold front crosses Tasmania. Another high pressure system will develop south of the Bight later Monday, then drift eastwards passing to the south of Tasmania to reach the Tasman Sea by Wednesday. A surface trough will linger over inland Victoria until Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayPartly cloudy over the south and along the ranges with scattered showers and thunderstorms, clearing later this evening. Possible heavy falls with storms. Mostly dry over the northwest inland and over East Gippsland away from the ranges. A very warm night with a generally moderate to fresh northerly winds. Winds lighter in the east with afternoon seabreezes expected to develop along the Gippsland coast.Monday 23 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms contracting to the east during the day and tending to rain areas in the evening over the northeast. Warm to hot with fresh and gusty northerly winds, shifting cooler gusty southwesterly in the west during the morning and extending through northern and central areas to reach the northeast by evening.Fire Danger -  Very high in the northwest, high elsewhere.Tuesday 24 FebruaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms easing to isolated showers in the east. Isolated showers elsewhere over Gippsland and extending to exposed parts of the central coast in the evening. Cool in the south and warm in the north with a moderate to fresh and gusty south to southeasterly wind.Wednesday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers over the eastern half of the State and the chance of a thunderstorms about the eastern ranges. Mild in the south and warm in the north with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Thursday 26 FebruarySlight chance of a shower about the expose parts of the coast and in the far northeast, otherwise a fine and partly cloudy day. Mild in the south, warm in the north. Moderate southwest winds, fresh at times about the east coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Monday.Product IDV10310
