MELBOURNE - Feb 21/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the south Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge to Victoria. A low pressure trough will move into western Victoria late on Sunday and then move eastwards across the State during Monday as an associated cold front crosses Tasmania. Another high pressure system will develop south of the Bight on Monday night and will drift eastwards towards Tasmania on Tuesday to reach the Tasman Sea by Wednesday, while a surface trough will linger over northeast Victoria. Forecast for the rest of SundayPartly cloudy over the southwest and along the ranges with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon. Mostly dry over the northern inland and over Gippsland away from the ranges. A warm to hot day with a generally moderate to fresh northerly winds. Winds lighter in the east with afternoon seabreezes expected to develop along the Gippsland coast.Fire Danger - High to very high.Monday 23 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms contracting to the east but a shower or two persisting about the southwest coast. Warm to hot in the north and east but a milder southwesterly change extending from the southwest during the day to affect most areas except for the far northeast.Tuesday 24 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and near the coast. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the eastern ranges. Cool in the south and warm in the north with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Wednesday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and near the central coast. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the eastern ranges.
