Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 20/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A monsoon trough extends from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lam, across northern Cape York Peninsula, to Ex-Tropical Cyclone Marcia over land about the southeast of Queensland and shifting to the south. A high pressure system will remain near New Zealand over the next few days, maintaining a ridge over the southern east coast.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayHeavy rain and some possible gusty storms about the southeast of the state as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Marcia moves through the southeast corner. A medium to high chance of showers and storms over far northern districts. Slight chance of showers or thunderstorms over the southern tropics, and fine over the the central interior and southwest of the state. Dangerous swells and abnormally high tides about the southern coast. Mostly moderate south to southeast winds, tending northwesterly over the far north. Strong winds about the southern coast, with possible damaging wind gusts.Sunday 22 FebruaryA slight to moderate chance of showers about southeastern coastal districts. Onshore winds and an unstable airmass through the tropics are expected to produce showers and thunderstorms over northern parts. Strong winds are expected about the southern coast, with powerful surf possible about southern beaches. Fine over the the central interior and southwest of the state.Monday 23 FebruaryDeep tropical moisture and instability should remain in place over the north of the state, with a moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms. A slight to moderate chance of showers along the eastern Queensland coast, with the best chance of showers around the far southeast. It should remain fine over the the central interior and southwest of the state.Tuesday 24 FebruaryDeep tropical moisture and instability should remain in place over the north of the state, with a moderate to high chance of showers and thunderstorms. A slight to moderate chance of showers and thunderstorms along the eastern Queensland coast, with the best chance of showers about the far southeast coast. It should remain fine over the southwest of the state. Fine over the the central interior and southwest of the state.Wednesday until FridayShowers are expected to continue along the eastern Queensland coast as a firm ridge persists along the coast from a slow moving high pressure system near New Zealand. Unstable conditions over the north of the state is expected to continue to produce showers and storms over the northern half of the state.
