MELBOURNE - Feb 20/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to the west-northwest and is directing moist northeasterly winds into a weak low pressure trough over inland New South Wales. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Marcia is moving south and weakening but is expected to bring further heavy rain to the northeast of New South Wales during the day, most likely in the afternoon and evening. The rain is expected to ease early Sunday as the low (remains of the Cyclone) moves east across the northern Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayVery high chance of rain redeveloping over the northeast during the day, heavy at times. Medium to high chance of showers over the remainder of the coast, ranges and western slopes. Chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the central west and the southeast. Fine in the far west. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong in the northeast.Sunday 22 FebruaryVery high chance of showers or rain on the north coast and adjacent ranges, easing during the day. Slight to medium chance of showers on the central coast and ranges. Slight chance of showers in the far southwest. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Monday 23 FebruarySlight to medium chance of showers in the south with the chance of thunderstorms near the Victorian border. Medium to high chance of showers on the central coast and ranges increasing to a very high chance on the north coast with the chance of thunderstorms. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Tuesday 24 FebruarySlight to medium chance of showers in the east increasing to a high chance near the coast. Partly cloudy in the west.
