MELBOURNE - Feb 19/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to northeastern New South Wales directing humid, unstable air into a low pressure trough over the inland parts of the state while Tropical Cyclone Marcia over the Coral Sea is moving east. The cyclone will cross Queensland southeast coast Friday morning and a cloud band associated with the cyclone will bring heavy rainfall to the northeastern New South Wales. The rain is expected to ease gradually during Saturday as the Cyclone moves further inland. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPartly cloudy in northeastern and in the far southeastern inland. High to very high chance of showers about the northern coast and ranges, with rain developing in the evening. Slight to medium chance of showers about the south and central coasts. Slight to medium chance of showers or thunderstorms elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Friday 20 FebruaryPartly cloudy in the southwest. Rain about the northern coast and adjacent ranges, with heavy falls likely. Slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strengthening on the north coast.Saturday 21 FebruaryRain on the northern coast and adjacent ranges, with heavy falls possible, easing during the day. Slight to medium chance of showers on the central coast and ranges. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong in the northeast.Sunday 22 FebruaryVery high chance of showers on the north coast and adjacent ranges and slight to medium chance of showers on the central coast and ranges.
