MELBOURNE - Feb 18/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to northeastern New South Wales. This ridge is directing humid easterly winds into a low pressure trough over the inland, producing unsettled conditions in many districts. Tropical Cyclone Marcia in the Coral Sea should move towards southeast Queensland over the next day or so with an associated trough extending to the south, likely bringing heavy rain to the northeast corner of New South Wales during Friday and Saturday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers about the northern coast and ranges, increasing to rain periods near the Queensland border at night. Possible showers about the central and southern coasts. The chance of showers or thunderstorms near a trough stretching from the southeast to northwest. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Very High in the North Western Fire Area.Friday 20 FebruaryRain about the northern coast and adjacent ranges, with heavy falls likely. The chance of showers along the central and southern coast and ranges. Possible afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the west. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strengthening on the north coast.Saturday 21 FebruaryRain on the northern coast and adjacent ranges, with heavy falls possible, easing to showers during the day. The chance of showers over the remainder of the coast and ranges, and possibly over the northwest slopes. Otherwise fine in the west. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong in the northeast.Sunday 22 FebruaryShowers on the north coast and adjacent ranges, possibly extending to the southern and central coasts. Mostly fine west of the Divide.
