MELBOURNE - Feb 14/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high centred near New Zealand extends a ridge towards northeast New South Wales, while a weak trough lies over the state's south. The high will slowly weaken and drift east during the next day or two as a cold front approaches from the southwest. A trough associated with the front is expected to reach southwestern districts late Sunday before stalling over southern and western areas on Monday. Assisted by a persistently humid airmass, this is likely to promote unsettled conditions in many parts of New South Wales for several days. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayShowers with the chance of thunderstorms in southern and central districts, increasing to rain areas in the southeast tonight. The chance of showers about the central and northern coasts. Fine across most of the northern inland. East to northeasterly winds near the coast, with generally light winds inland.Sunday 15 FebruaryThe chance of showers about the coast and ranges, and possible thunderstorms. Mostly fine and hot in the west. East to northeasterly winds near the coast, with generally light winds inland.Fire Danger - Very high: North Western, Lower Central West Plains.Monday 16 FebruaryThe chance of showers and thunderstorms across most southern districts, chiefly about the tablelands, possibly extending in to central areas. A few showers about the north coast and adjacent ranges. Fine and mostly sunny across the northern inland. Hot in the west. Southeast to northeasterly winds, tending south to southwesterly in the south.Tuesday 17 FebruaryShowers and thunderstorms in a band from the southeast to the northwest. The chance of showers about the north coast and adjacent ranges. Fine and partly cloudy on the central coast, northern inland and southwest. Hot in the far west.
