MELBOURNE - Feb 5/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system southwest of Tasmania will move across Tasmania today to lie just east of Bass Strait tonight then out over the Tasman Sea on Saturday. A weak low pressure trough will enter the southwest of Victoria on Saturday night then cross the remainder of southern Victoria on Sunday. A new high pressure centre will quickly develop to the west of Tasmania on Sunday night before tracking over the southern Tasman Sea during Monday. An inland low pressure trough is likely to extend southwards into Victoria late on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayFine. A warm to hot and mostly sunny day with a light to moderate north to northeasterly wind and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Saturday 7 FebruaryFine apart from the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the southwest and about the Central and West Gippsland coast in the afternoon and evening. A warm to hot day with a moderate to locally fresh northerly wind ahead of a southwesterly change in the far southwest later.Sunday 8 FebruaryDry and becoming mostly sunny. Remaining hot in the north but a milder moderate to fresh southwest to southerly change extending over southern areas.Monday 9 FebruaryScattered light showers or drizzle in Gippsland, mostly during the morning. Dry elsewhere and mainly sunny across the north and west. Mild to warm in the south but remaining hot in the north.
